I agree. The original premise of the story was a simple yet endearing one. You had this kid who was basically dismissed as being unteachable by everyone, yet he never gave up, doubled down on the few entry-level skills he did learn and managed to make something out of himself. I liked the idea...
I wonder if the twist is that through her arrogance, the slave invariably ends up causing the downfall of everyone she has ever served. And after this, she goes on to work for someone else? And the cycle repeats itself.
