IDK how it's with other people, but i hold people who give me free food in rather high regard.

Her initial idea of giving out snacks was great, especially with her cafe plans.
Just make some cookies, bring them to class, offer them up to people sitting close to you. If asked why - tell the truth, that baking is your hobby and you'd like to open a cafe in the future.
Do that like once or twice a week, by 4th batch you are friends with half of the class.

No I agree, and if she's aiming to open a shop, she can even spread her name as people can vouch for her desserts if she keeps trying and getting better at her baking!
