from what i've seen, a sniper group is a scanlation group that starts translating a project that another group has already taken, and they usually start at the most recent chapters to try and take it over. if they started from the beginning, it would've been more acceptable.

disclaimer: from here, this is my own speculation. they might translate a bit further into the raws since mangadex automatically puts you on another group's translations if they released a later chapter, so they get people viewing their chapters first instead of the original group who would post the chapter later. following logic, since people already read the chapter, they wouldn't reread the chapter just bc the original group posted, so the og group loses views and the sniper group ends up taking over the majority of the views in the series unless the og group translates further than them to stay ahead.

of course, this only works when the translation is actually good, not like this one.
