I think I sort of gets it. "Once you won the first place you won't be able to run just for fun anymore." That's what happen to Komiya. Now he become addicted to feeling of victory he will burn everything he has if that's what it takes. He says just for a fleeting of glory but I don't think he'd be satisfied with just that. He will burn everything he has chasing after victories per victories until there's nothing more left in him.

Togashi on the other hand feels like a proper athlete with more rational mindset.

I think this sport theme is how you view sports and the way you will live as an athlete, either with rational and professionalism or burning passion.
