I'd argue that dealing with that kind of family circumstance doesn't necessarily lead into becoming strong. There are people who'd break under so much pressure and would not come back to try and improve the relationship to their abuser again.
The route the author chose to go with is that most of the family member did become strong enough to try and improve things.
And as I already mentioned; I'm totally alright with that.

@Frozeneye It's all a cultural thing. In Japan, even if a wife and husband hate each other, they don't get divorced but instead live separately. The whole culture is very family-oriented, so while in the west a family would break apart way earlier, in Japan they'd learn to just tough it out. This is just a situation where they had a chance to repair the family.

@R-Mod Hm, true the Japanese family culture plays a big role here. It isn't even that different from blended families in the west when it comes to how family life is being handled. The only difference is probably that Japanese partners will stay married despite not wanting to live together. It's probably too much of a cultural difference to depict a family member leave the family without it turning out like Dabi.
