Anybody might explain why one nick on the finger means no go on the stage ?

IIRC (I used to fence), fencing puts a lot of friction on the fingers, so even a small cut is likely to reopen or even become worse. If that happens, you can say goodbye to practice for a while. This isn't a tournament match, so there's no need for heroic resolve either.
