Reading for the first time currently and that's definitely a theme i'm noticing, kenji's spirit continues through them while 'friend's' spirit continues through the opposition, the parallel actually makes me believe that friend really did die in the science room, despite how sudden and anti-climactic it was, and that a succesor will inherit his will the same way kanna inherited kenji's
