The year is 2200, and society revolves around cats.

Scientist 1:"Oh, then we should use our profound future knowledge of science to help them extend their lifespan?"

Scientist 2:"What? No fuck that, let's make them talk instead."

Scientist 1:"BRILLIANT! Then it will be double the tragic when a SENTIENT cat still has the same lifespan as a normal one!"

Scientist 2:"I'm sure that won't give them any existential dread or anything like that."

The lore questions here are really interesting.

Stray cats are now basically feral homeless dudes who can think and communicate with people and (unlike the ones around here) not crazed out of their minds on catnip. As seen at the end I now have THREE ex-stray cats, which is one more than I wanted, but Jack literally just walked up and demanded to be let in. I can't imagine how bad it would be if more stray cats could talk. I would probably have 50, because who can resist if one walks up to you and does the Oliver Twist thing? Well maybe, some of them want to be stray? Freedom! Maybe not getting neutered/spayed!

So I hope this gets explored more because it's a bit strange. Yes, obviously we have human homelessness too, but they aren't adorable sentient kitties.

Nowadays i don't own any cats. I used to have lots of cats when i was a kid with my family but now i'm all alone in a different continent and i don't want to have any pets, not because i don't want to, but because i care so much for them.
If something ever happened to me, what it would be with my kitties ?! That feeling is terrifying.

i guess it's not impossible but even with talking , maybe it's hard, tho even 20 years for one cat is impressive, i'm sure some are record breakers (tho we don' t exactly know how they evolved/what made them start talking as opposed to it just happening)

i guess it's not something ppl necessarily think about , but other than a close trusted friend, i'm sure there are ppl who make/write wills that'd be able to have a clause to where all your money left behind would go into taking care of them if not rehoming them into a cozy place
