I wondered about that too, has not been explained. Maybe kitten was 'picked up' from a shelter or someone who just had kittens? I can definitely see you will still have some cats that, for whatever reason, don't have homes. Like owner dies or cat gives birth to 8 kittens and owner is 'nuh uh'. Actually, that would be really weird too when the mother cat can talk! Guess we'll see if that's addressed at all.

at this point i think it'd be one cat per household by default but i wonder if there are any 'cat less' humans around, but i guess even if it's a lot of cats/ideal world for cat, it's still not a perf system

lol depends on how attached the mothers would be. if it's not like a "Japan exclusive" kinda thing to where a lot of foreigners adopt/buy cats XD

I would think so... no reason cats would know how to speak Japanese when born any more than humans. It might be like Late Marrying Fox where you have the elite cats who bothered learning Japanese because they wanted something and then the regular cats who never bothered. Though honestly this series doesn't feel like it's going to get as deep into world building as Late Marrying Fox, more slice of life comedy... but we'll see! There are already three volumes, maybe Nekoha-sensei can't resist at some point.

Thanks for another fun chapter! This manga is cute, but I can't help but think that it's actually predicting the future. Not just in Japan, but all over. Except for the talking that is.

I wouldn't be shocked if by 2200, humanity had declined, and animals had mostly taken over, with the humans left basically being an entire species of basically park rangers, but for all of earth.
