But I wonder how many cats find it as a challenge altho in this world I imagine it'd be rare for Someone to outright state that they hate cats or have another small pet

Only copium I can think up is that since they can physically pronounce human words, these may be descendants of genetically modified cats.

A real cat's mouth would not be able to move in a way to say human words.

So maybe the more icky parts of natural cat reproduction have been changed.

lol maybe they have to feed them treats with sleeping pills before any neutering but i wonder if there's not like "you're old enough to take care of a cat without your parents ending up doing all of the work instead" and they have some 'compatibility test' that'd pair some cats with some humans. imagine if sensei was some gym/health nut that'd drag a cat to a gym with them (can't rly force some cats but still)

or maybe they'd quarantine away from them during mating season

i don't expect there to be a ton of strays versus maybe some squatting in empty houses or a full cat community with one human visiting a ton to feed/give them attention/toys, but i'd expect some cats to just barge in on others home like "my owner is on a business trip" (and not taking them along for some reason) and asking the neighbors to feed them as well for extra food while chatting with the other cat-neighbors lol
