I think what happened is that the author: Yaki Tomato(?), despite the story being popular was canceled by the company.

But the author owns the characters and rights so he could probably continue it like “Erufu-san wa Yaserarenai”

Also, the author is currently being probed for the anime “NEET Kunoichi to Nazeka Dousei Hajimemashita” so maybe they aren’t focused on this? Idk
