I assume the MC being a middle schooler this time around was due to Japanese sensibilities and how they really like their stories of youth.
Considering it's likely that it'll take a romantic turn down the line, I wouldn't be surprised if it was also done to escape any lolicon allegations further on.

That being said, I preferred the MC being an adult, because the size difference really drove home just how cute Miss Evil Dragon was, giving her tinyness, cuteness and must-protect-daughter-ness a far stronger impression. Plus, chuunibyou middle school MCs are really overhashed nowadays, and the original was really starting to come into its own as far as the plot was going.

I've got high hopes for Tomato, but the original will always hold a special place in my heart.

I see everyone talk about the original but what even was the original? Can I get the name?

oh, the announcement was kinda recent too. I'm happy it got remake but I wonder why the previous one got cancelled?
Perhaps because it had cute vibes only to turn around and have MC's sister, a lolicon, do stuff to the girl when she bathed her?

Very cute, both lack social skills but somehow comfort each other even with their lack of social knowledge. Hope this turns into a wholesome read about two people who learn to be more true about themselves.

Tbh, I'm don't like how they change the dependable, fatherly like MC from the original into an immature nerdy brat.

romance tag?
No romance in the work yet, it probably will get one later, but I would like a wholesome story of two friends getting over the Chuuni phase. Speaking of someone commented that Chuuni MCs were overdone, but one who knows that they're doing it and are low-key ashamed doesn't happen much.
