I think the reason this resonates for me so much is because it feels like a story I would have spun about my life at the cusp of my second decade if I'd made this one other choice or worked at the next restaurant over or spoke to the fourth person that day, instead of the sixth.

Anzu kinda nailed it for me at the end of the chapter - she's not even really sure what she's pushing back against, only that there's something there she wants to fight, something she wants to run from.
She's asking around, seeking the perspectives of others and their stories and pasts, trying to square her reality against everyone else. She knows her mom sucks in a lot of ways, and in other ways, that it might all really be for her own good, in some twisted fashion.
But she wants to run, and push back, all the same; but how, remains a mystery.

And in a sense, I think that's a part of "growing up" really is. Doesn't matter how well-adjusted your family is, how "normal" your childhood was, how uptight or absent or uncaring or nurturing your parents may be - there comes a point where you feel like you need to be figuring things out for yourself, only no one knows how to simply do that.

So it's neat to see a story about music kinda encapsulate that weird pining frenetic energy of Youth & The Future, and how it manifests in different people depending on who they were and where they came from. How much of a relationship they have with their personal Todays and Tomorrows, how tightly they hold to the future or to the present or to the past. How they measure themselves against those around them, and against the "them" inside themselves.

And the art, of course, fully brings it all home. Between the wild SFX to the panel layout to the perspectives to the ink-wash style of actual illustration, it's art you feel and hear as much as see, and complements the mess and nervous energy of the characters of the story quite nicely.

So thanks for your work in TL'ing this series. It's a true gem of an experience.

thanks as always for putting the titles of songs referenced in these, seeing Meiling put on such a cheery sounding song after coming home to that is a fun way to set the tone lol

of course I'm incredibly excited to see Anzu work through even a bit of her feelings while playing at this show but it's also been a joy seeing how those around her react to experiencing the band's music (and especially Anzu's singing) so I'm very much looking forward to seeing how the various side characters in this story feel after the show

thanks for the chapter!

It’s always a joy to see another new chapter. Every time I’m just left wondering about each character and their backstories (in this chapter Meiling, alongside, as usual, Ikoma). It seems like pretty much everyone has complicated home lives (except for Shunpei that is). It scratches a particular itch that not many stories do, and I keep getting drawn back to it.

I’m honestly surprised it isn’t more popular, rather than “isekai slop #65333” or “reheated romcom premise #95014”. Well, it is what it is I guess.
