I think the whole point of introducing the "you can change your fighter" rule is to avoid this kind of plot armor. Since the matchs are way more balanced in the 2nd round, with tons of damage on the bodies, anyone can come back to replace a too hurt fighter without being categorized as "weak" because he lost. Damn the Fang told Takeshi that Raian was stronger than him, every businessman will want to recruit him. And there's also the fact that some fighters skills are better against some (I don't see Julius lose against a lot of people...)

@TheBoll Yeah the Fang considered Raian a stronger fighter, but as an overall fighter plus Raian jobs a lot once he cant win by pure strenght. Erioh was pissed because he lost without using any Kure skills but Restraint. Probably he notices that Takeshi is prone to doubt while Raian despite his flaws is focused

Dont forget that STR stat wise Takeshi is probably the strongest fighter on the tournament if they mention that even Kure using Restraints cant match him.

And yes some fighters are better suited than others against each other

@kinosseur Still Muteba admited that wasnt so pumped up since he lost his eyesight, and was ready to go all out unlike his usual cool persona, which means that recognized Seki as an incredible foe. Hell he was also admiting he underestimated him and was far better than he though BEFORE Sekibayashi stand up once again before him

Man, what an ending. This was a fantastic fight and basically let Muteba bounce off of a much more developed and charismatic fighter to give him some much needed development. After this fight Muteba isn't this one note "oh how funny he has sex a lot and has tribal tattoos" character but actually is a fully fleshed out person. His thoughts that we get, how quickly he learns and adapts and the fighter's reactions to him (especially Wakabayashi who is straight up not too happy he has to fight Muteba) but more specifically it says so much about Muteba that when Sekibayashi got back up he was literally astonished and that suplex into a pin was just...so good. Such a show of respect for someone who literally kills people for a living.

This was one of the better, if quicker fights, because of how much got done as far as character during it. Really phenomenal fight.

It's gives so much flavor that every even the strongest character in tournament is already has some traumas and can't use his 100% is realistic, nice.

His gimmick wasn’t having a lot of sex and tribal tattoos, it’s was being literally blind and using predominantly killing techniques instead of basic martial arts.

Ah right, I forgot that rule even though Seki just made a joke out of it ? Thing can be unpredictable later on.

Still, I don't think there are many chances for substitution to happen. (1) It's over half of the manga now, there's little chance for a totally new character appears out of no where. (2) Ignore the riff-raff outside of main bracket, because if they're really strong, they would take a slot instead of waiting for chairman to make that bizarre rule. (3) Among those 32, skip ones who got KO so easily (Mockey, Rihito) or took too much damage (Mokichi) -- naturally those businessmen would like to hire someone who can win. (4) The highest hurdle is pride of the fighters: Setsuna'll definitely take any possible chance to fight Ohma, Muteba goes wherever with money and chicks, but guys like Seki or Okubo just admitted defeat and swore to revenge after improving themselves (note: Raian is uber prideful). Come back like a sore loser is totally uncool.

So the list of available is: Akoya (but so much justice, who want him except the fake loli), Julius (don't know yet, he seems prideful too), Setsuna (may lose intentionally to switch place in bracket), Hatsumi Sen (dude doesn't seem to know the word "loyalty", or his boss may be in cahoot with other). Now let's bet on who will sub for Bando.

It doesn't change the fact that Raian is undoubtly one of the strongest around here, and changing your fighter for him can be a wise decision, particularly if your fighter is too injured.

Ahah this was the best use the author could make of this rule !

(1) I don't think new characters will be introduced either (even if one or two is not totally impossible)
(2) I was about to say that I completely agree with that, then I realize that there could be some exceptions to that (and the one who make me realize that is Karla, the other Kure prodigy !)

(4) I also think it's over for Seki, but I would'nt be so sure about Okhubo. He is strong, one of the strongest of the tournament (just unlucky he got the Fang), so a good reason (politics ?) could get him back in the tournament. And for Raian, he also just want to fight and slaughter (and Revenge will also be a great incentive) so he can go back !
Julius, with all the political scheme and the fact hat he lost to a surprise attack, is far from out to me.

I have no freaking idea who will sub for Bando ?but I really hope he does not come back like @Pterodactyl said, I would find it kind of underwhelming after all the backstory with the governement. But the fact that they make an alliance with the Nogi group let the door open yeah.

Oh wait, @Pterodactyl might be right. Bando's employer went to talk with Furumi (Wakatsuki's employer), who owns a pharmaceutical company, so the problem about "lack of equipment" can be solved. It would be weird though because Furumi has declared to support Nogi, and Bando's next opponent is Hatsumi Sen (then again, they all might be in cahoots).

Muteba, is amazing without eyesight. And even after losing his hearing, he is still amazing, and defies all science. Oddly for a Merc and a sex fiend, he has an honourable conduct in fighting. Showed in his first fight and now.

Nope, the only chance he can fight Ohma is outside of the match. Look at tournament bracket, how the hell he can pass THE FANG to get in the final? Might as well make him lose here and goes on rampage, only to be beaten by awakened Ohma

I know I'm late to the party, but doesn't the new substitution rule technically allow him to replace Cosmo as a fighter against Ohma?
The way I understand it, only the fighter's consent is needed, not the employer's. And Cosmo's sustained quite a lot of damage, so his employer might actually be glad if Setsuna offered himself.
