I can shed some light on this. The translation "Ghost Forest" is likely a close-to-direct translation of Gakigahara, since "Gaki" is the Japanese word for "Preta", the Buddhist class of hungry ghosts. I chose to transliterate this as Gakigahara instead of translating it as Ghost Forest to strengthen the association with the real-world Aokigahara. I'm guessing that "Mortuary Mountain" is supposed to be a morbid analogue of Mt. Fuji (if you look on the map, it's just about where Fuji is).

it's quite funny how they always use magnetic field for making a place inhabitable , when in reality it's the opposite... earth is habitable because earth is giant magnet with strong magnetic field that shield us from dangerous radiation from space...

That was how Aokigahara being falsely portrayed in real life. Magnetic field is fine, and the forest is full of living creatures too.

@Kaelpie but supposedly Kiryu then surpassed and defeated his master. His master also didn't seem like the killing type so this whole passage seems a bit strange to me.

As Beardy said, Taira was really soft to his pupil. Maybe he killed Niko while trying to protect Setsuna, and didn't go all out when Setsuna turned on him.
My guess on this is: someone taught Ohma "advance" >> he went berserk >> Niko had to stop him and got injured >> Setsuna picked this chance to attack Niko >> Niko was too powerful even when not in tip-top shape and beat him half dead >> Taira intervened to save his douchebag pupil, killing Niko in the process >> Ohma got amnesia lol
