In SMGT, he introduces something new (a problem, a puzzle, an enemy, new equipment, a new technique or anything) and it gets resolved or used in the same chapter or the following two.
In TODAG, he introduces something little by little, then doesn't talk about for 10s of chapters, and then BAM, you get surprised by the conclusion.
It's like TODAG is written by Mad Snail and SMGT is written by Mad Snail Jr., the 10yo son of Mad Snail.
Well, for the moment, I still like this. It's a basic trope filled power fantasy, but it's still OK.
