What he did is called post-irony, it's like one of those "rip in pieces" or "shaking my hips" instead of "rest in piece" and "smh(shaking my head)". It's half serious irony indicative of the original phrase, meaning they are not "laughing their ass off" saying that, but it also means some of that did actually happen (he probably just giggled outloud), though not to that ridiculous extent.
