I knew something like that was going to start happening after she started dressing nicer....

It wasn't at any truly sketchy places (thankfully), but when I was young I learned a few things here and there. One thing I learned is that people pay less attention to you if you're wearing clothes that hide your body shape (like a baggy jacket) and have messy hair. If you dress up nicely, you can end up attracting some scary types of eyes.
That girl is out the whole day, doesn't have anyone backing her, not even a boss of her workplace (as far as they know), and sleeps basically outside. It's very dangerous to attract eyes like that while in that situation...
Maybe that's part of why the madam made a big show of coming to pick her up? To show that she has someone backing her..?
