I think the injury is suppose to be more that there is the curse in it reducing his max strength not rediculous pain

The injury itself doesn't look that bad, only the curse prevents it fully healed. At this point he might as well come to term with it and use medicine/magic to relieve some pain. Consider the whole premise of this manga is just an excuse for him to take vacation.
