@hijklol100
Nie Li is mainly doing this not out of the goodness of his heart as @Kaarme mistook it, but to show favor to those who helped him and his companions in his previous life.

There's so much text here that you probably missed what I said much earlier in the thread:

He has sympathy towards those who helped him in his previous past future, so it's merely paying back the favour (he's still the same soul), not philanthropy, and it's perfectly natural.

Like that one hunter himself said, Nie Li did offer them far good a deal for it to be realistic as pure business. In the end, nothing would have prevented Nie Li from going around collecting the rocks himself. Since he knows the place has the rocks, he must have seen them before. It would have just take a lot longer. He could have also gone around more quietly and made small deals with individuals to get the rocks for a very, very cheap price. If the folks never knew he had so much resources, another possibility is that he could have said he has 10 sacks of rice and will give a sack to each of the 10 people who bring him the most rocks in a day, or maybe made it a bit more competitive with extra for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Basically like an auction. It might have resulted in a bit of bloodbath in the town, though, so he would have needed to be from the Sacred Family to do that.

@givemersspls Of course it's greed. But what's wrong about it? We wouldn't have even electric lights if mankind wasn't so affected by greed. Greed can lead to development and prosperity if it's moderated wisely. It will lead into world wars if it's not. These guys thought they could get more, but it backfired. That's the risk of following your greed.

@givemersspls It's the same with the guy being stopped from trading, while we only see one of them being stopped, thanks to the webnovel, it's safe to assume that there were more of such people in there.

@givemersspls If they weren't going to get violent, the most likely action to follow up would be to threaten him, either way, I don't think the villagers were trying to negotiate as much as they were trying to force the prices to rise.

This is just for the people who haven't realized this yet but there is no point in arguing with (givemersspls), this person is a troll who comments on various "controversial" manga chapter's just to start arguments. No matter the issue, you can count on (givemersspls) to play devil's advocate just to argue for the sake of arguing. For instance, many different people have already pointed out the faults in (givemersspls)'s argument. But instead of realizing this (givemersspls) retaliates with restating the same points over again, bringing in irrelevant historical information from our world, and changing the main point so it never seems apparent that they're just trolling. Like seriously we're talking about a situation where Nie li could just pick the purple stones right off the ground without having to go to some dangerous location, and the argument is what? That the villagers aren't wrong for clearly letting their greed get the best of them and trying to extort the person already recognized as giving a more than fair trade? The clear and straightforward answer as shown to us the "reader" by the author, is yes they are wrong.

Before I end this comment I just want to point out that the last argument I got into with (givemersspls) was about whether a mother and father were in the wrong for abandoning their child in the middle of the woods where the most likely outcome was the child's death. Based on what I've said so far can you guess which side of the argument (givemersspls) was on?

@tip390 Eh, I have done that myself. In fact the last time was just during the last couple of days with another manga. However, the other person was poor sport over there, resorting to childish name calling, rage quitting, and whatnot. This conversation over here has been good. Playing as the devil's advocate is fine. It's difficult, but it can be rewarding as long as the other party sticks to the subject.

@givemersspls
What you described is not a normal business negotiation, it is price fixing.
It is illegal in most countries, so people criticizing this sort of behavior is right to do so.

@givemersspls Ok I agree with you but I'd like to point out that let's say from the start Nie Li offered what the villagers would consider fair for the stones, people wouldn't really demand more because the exchange would seem pretty normal, but the think is he gave a lot more than what they tought was the value of the stones so this made them think the stones are much more valuable and start to want more compensation. At least that is what I think,

I agree with the point that if he made a really small amount of rice they really wouldn't be able to go against him but if the value was "normal/sufficient/fair" they wouldn't have bothered to ask for more anyway so... And yes this is really a guilty pleasure the author really does paint Nie Li as a almost perfect dude. Anyway I maybe wrong about what I said so I'd like to talk more about it politely please xD
