I didn't expect this development. It seems the lord wants to play the "hate sink" game: his daughter believes he kicked her out because he's a classist, sanctimonious prick (he actually approves her marrying into a humble family), and Xinghe's rebel friend blames him when he's actually trying to topple the corrupt court and avenge his father.

That was obvious from the beginning wasn't it? He was clearly conflicted after he did it, and there was plenty of foreshadowing that this was the case. I forget the chapter it happened in but didn't he straight-up say something about how he hopes she'll be happy/safe now??
