I never like when people use Western terms for middle and high school students in Japan. Japanese middle and high school have three years each. There are no Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors as grades. It's just First Year, Second Year, and Third Year.

You couldn't be more wrong. Without the intense psychological bullying in the first few chapters there would have been no discernible progress in the relationship and it would have been just another highschool romcom. Senpai has grown as a person since the start of the manga and is a better person for it. He has more confiedence now. In return, Nagatoro has mellowed out now that Senpai has become more respectable and less cowardly.

Also, the bullying is what made the manga unique in an oversaturated market.

Man that shit was downright DARK compared to what we have now. I am still hoping for the boyfriend arc but I don't know if it could be squeezed in at this point in the progression. It almost wouldn't make sense. Would love another Yupiel cameo though.
