People reading series like this are kind of annoying about putting their preferences before the characters' own preferences for the romance bit. Sometimes, someone completely fantastic falls in love with someone, and gets absolutely nothing out of that. That's life. If it was only about who did more for the person, people wouldn't be disgusted/making fun of so called "nice guys" and such would they? Even this girl isn't helping him because she expects to actually get anything out of it just from helping him enough. That isn't how love works, and she's not dumb enough to think so.
