@Talismaster Some people see Robert as a white name. Meaning it came from white culture. Its blended into American culture and now it can be a name for an 'anyman' who I would say most people imagine a person named "bob" as some plain white dude (obviously based on nothing but my own experience, but I'm sharing it so at least you see another POV, so its fine if you disagree). imo seeing something as something belonging to a culture isn't wrong. Robert came from Germanic roots (Hrodebert) -> Old English ("The Normans introduced this name to Britain, where it replaced the Old English cognate Hreodbeorht. It has been a very common English name since that time." [1]) -> Immigrants & settlers go to america, later brings black people as slaves) -> Slave owners named robert & slaves named robert by their owners[2] -> Non-slave owning white people and the freed slaves who now are free and have the name robert -> Cultures start to merge internationally and now white people, black, and people around the world are named robert. But it came from Europe, the which is like the whitest.
My point is, I don't think its wrong to think of Robert or Bob as a white name as colored people have only had the right to name themselves that for 100+ years vs white people who have had it since the middle ages.
I saw that you didn't think it was cool, but all he did was say that he associates Robert/Bob as a white name, so seeing the only black dude I've seen in a manga (as in just a human being that was black and acknowledged that they have a culture, not a tan side character) in months called bob is a little ironic to me. The punchline is a reference to something a lot of people in black families and who know/been to black BBQs know. So I think him being named Bob either is mangaka trying to be ironic, or is just an 'everyman' for a foreigner/ African-American [3]

[3]du-rag , tank top, THE bbq chair, and what I'm gonna assume is a glass full of ice cubes and iced tea.
edit: took me half an hour! so I hope civility can happen, cause the mention of race on the internet, especially this demographic, can get ugly. I thought " hey , i have that opinion, is it wrong? Thinks about it..."nah i dont think so , but I don't want to fight on the internet anymore, let me try to civilly explain my thought process behind what I assumed was an innocuous view of that.....after research & sources"
