I found that breastfeeding comment a bit strange too, I have to say. From what I understand Japanese are pretty pro-breastfeeding and doing it in public isn't seen as some sort of giant scandal. Maybe it's the combination of it all? She's a working mother, which isn't that normal in Japan, she's right in public next to a road, so she doesn't feel she needs to at least duck into the nearest park or something, and she doesn't use a cover, so she's comfortable with that, too.
