I'd honestly pick fantranslations over official ones anyday, but I guess official ones are better than none atleast..
(Might actually prefer even unedited google-translated ones over the officials tbh.)
Way too much lost in official translations generally, and they usually change around stuff to the extent where you can hardly guess what the original said.
Just look at the official translation of this title for one. *sigh*
Fantranslations usually retain enough that you can follow what's happening to a much greater extent.
Sometimes I wonder if official translators hold even a basic understanding of the languages in question,
considering how rare it is for them to even try preserve the flow.
(Honestly wouldn't surprise me if they used googletranslate then wrote everything from scratch with a bit of inspiration from the gtrans-results.)
If you got even a basic understanding of spoken japanese, you could check the breath of the wild cutscenes with jap voices and english subs (they're for the eng dubs btw =p),
see how crazy the differences are and how much they messed around with the flow, not to mention choice of words and attitudes.
(Even if you don't, it should be obvious with how eng got sentences where nothing is said in the original, or there's just some laugh or something in the original..)
It's far from unique to that title and is pretty much the standard for any official translations, which is why I prefer fantranslations, or even jap raws for any media with voices.
(Since aslong as it's spoken, I'll be fine.)
