People can't effectively judge what they can't relate to. They'll draw their own flawed conclusions, and when they're not immediately proven false beyond doubt, those conclusions will be assumed to be true and gradually become cemented in their minds. And over time, all those little errors in their perception will feed into new misconceptions and their world-view will gradually become irreparably skewed.

That is part of what it means to be human, unfortunately.
