Poor Nami out here asking about how MC must have noticed both Hikari and Kurou's feelings, when she doesn't realize he's a fucking moron who suffers from RomCom MC Density Syndrome and so he is oblivious to anything plot-relevant around him.

Also yeah - Hikari doesn't win in that scenario. She either loses out on her love of MC, or she wins, and (likely) loses her friendship to Kurou who wouldn't want to stick around seeing the guy she loves dating her friend.

I do like that Nami literally told him "oh you mean you haven't noticed Big Tits' feelings? Also Kurou likes you" but because right after said Kurou came through the window, we're expected to believe that MC just...missed Nami talking to him prior to that point.
But oh yeah he's been dragging his feet on "making a choice" while being mad at Takasu for stringing multiple girls along, so.

I figured the curse was external-force stuff that acted upon Kotaro and fucked up his love life. Like the interruptions at the shrine during the Test of Courage.

His indecisiveness is all internal and is a facet of who he is as a person. Perhaps it could be chalked up to "the curse" as well, but I don't know if I'd buy his entire personality being a result of some magical malady forced upon his bloodline.
