Back in Chapter 81 it talks about how there was a mysterious plague that only affects Rulers/Lords and cause them to lose their sanity before succumbing. Alec remarks the King changed around that time so potentially his whole family was corrupted rather than evil.
it's possible that he was affected by that spell for a long time. coming to the sleeping kingdom, where magical ivy grows and a witch lives. might've made the spell go berserk

You know, it would be a wild and hilarious plot twist if Alec was actually completely evil, but that plague corrupted him and caused him to become good and heroic.

Yea I feel the same, this complete 180 of this character just feels so forced and off putting. And the whole “it’s just because of the disease” just feels so cheap.😅

It's not like the royals' residence would be standing somewhere on it's own in the middle of nowhere... There's a capital city around it, dude. I suspect you're confused by the MC saying that he will "buy" butter and assume he'll actually interact with someone outside? That's not what he means, he'll get the goods from a store in the city (apparently the spell keeps them fresh somehow) and leave money in their place. They've done that on their previous visit.
It's never said how big it is but presumably the whole thing was affected, otherwise the territories which were spared would establish their own state(s) after failing to get the capital back.

Depends on what you mean by "addressed". It wasn't explained how or why, but they did notice that food stays fresh, most likely due to the same spell that keeps everyone sleeping for decades, yet not dying from lack of nutrition or having their muscle mass atrophying or having their physiological needs taken care of.
I know they said at some point that the food seems safe to eat. But it has been a few days (weeks?) since he woke up the girls, which means the preservation spell is still going strong even after that. And they are still eating the food with the spell still active.
Just seems like the author just didn't want to think up a complex explanation for the food situation.
Why would waking up the girls change anything? That would mean the rest would either also wake up, or start being affected by all the things I listed and more and that obviously hasn't been the case.
His personality actually lines up with what we've seen of Ilias when he was small. Since he has always been in a more superior and correct position compared to Alec, no wonder Alec only got startled by the apology. In the past Ilias probably never had a reason to do so.
