I'm very glad that I find myself really wanting to see Koga do well. It's never the best reading experience if you don't have much of a strong connection to the main character and while I liked Ohma well enough, I definitely prefer Koga's underdog role here.

Abetillo , yeah but remember. At the start of the journey Ohma almost got beaten by best boy fingering guy (cant remember his name). He was more qualified but he always was an underdog too. Even if the gap weren't this big.

Not really, the second he used his Niko style he demolished Rihito with ease
Only time Ohma felt like the underdog was when he got his shit kicked in by the Fang and every match that went down with Ohma after

Koga gets the tar beaten out of him nearly every spar or fight

I don't know. I mean, yes, he fet stronger, but he had opponents following the shounen scheme. One stronger than the other. Yeah, he had Niko style but until midway through the tournament the didnt really used it, just parts of it.
Compare that to Koga. He fought/sparred with who? Adam? Cosmo? The other, obviouly stronger almost-mc? A purgatory top fighter with respet from Sekibayashi? One of purgatory's representatives, a former fang? Pretty big names, some even from the previous serie.
Still not saying that Koga is "better fighter than Ohma". But in Asura at this point (i just looked it up and now can appreciate more the art, compared to that time) they just beat themself through the annihilation ship. The only truly strong character Ohma fought was Sekibayashi. And at that point it was a hard fight with sacrifices. Yeah he won all his fights (except Hatsumi) but vs second to third rank fighters.
From what they say about this guy, he is a second class fighter at most. But without the niko style Ohma wasn't that much stronger (if not weaker as at later parts he gets stronger by unlocking its potetnial). Koga seems like one "blank paper" he gets stronger as he sees other strong fighter. Which can foreshadow a rapid growth.

Reminds me of Toriko fight against Tommy Rod, when he used his legs.

Man, talk about superb page layout. I didn't see Koga's hit until I got to the panel where Kureishi spots it. Few manga play with reading orientation like that.

You phrased it like Niko style was some sort of high-tech armament that gave huge boost to user when equipped. But it was the only martial art Ohma had ever practised in his life, he spent many years of training to master its technique, of course he would be severely weaker without it.
Rapid growth or not, Koga's still very green compare to other fighters. Utterly green at that. He's only in training seriously for a few months, while other veteran fighters have spent almost their whole life dedicated to martial art. Talent is important, but talent alone doesn't help him skipping decade of effort.

- those 2 witnesses arent amateurs .
- oh yeah ? i think the old , baldy , glassed guy cant even beat a pudding .

his nickname is "the demon orca" ? someone , call the fisherman guy yoshinari karo , lol .

kind of unfair for the orca guy that the audience is on the side of the MC , and they keep yelling tips for the MC .

image if this is a math exam : HEY MC , THE CORRECT ANSWER FOR QUESTION 1 IS NOT "D" , BUT "A" INSTEAD . THE ANSWER FOR THE NEXT QUESTION IS "C" , NEXT IS "B" , ....

so MC 's finisher = toe stinger + liver shot , the moves of his previous opponents .

I didnt meant it lile that. I get that Ohma used his life to train niko style. But if i remember correctly he used only one techince at a time until the fight with the assasin clan's fighter. He couldn't use it to the full potential. In the story, yeah he developed it in hars ways with sweat and blood. But in the manga, what we saw, he got stronger bit by bit. And if we see only the results it doesnt matter if its happening by luck, experience, hard work or "too" fast learning.
Yes, the writer likes a more "ground-level/ real like" development but if its necessary for the story then he gonna be in the competition i can guarantee it.
(Even though i think he doesnt participate/something happens and he join in later and his ending is gonna be a fight with Ryuki)

NONE of what u said changes the fact that Ohma was never really an underdog tho. Koga actually captures what it means to be one much better than he does

There were definitely moments where Ohma was an underdog in that the other guy was stronger, but he definitely started off as the more complete package and just kind of drilled through his fights until after Inaba.

Koga's been an underdog in that we've seen his birth as a martial artist. He's had to fight for every tiny victory and this is his first legitimate fight where he actually might win.

Remember ohma vs wakatsuki that ohma can't do shit until he demonbane the shit out of wakatsuki lol if wakatsuki know demonbane beforehand he won't lose to ohma I believed ohma can't block his attack only thing he can do is parry all day And waiting for counterattack
