@instant_noodle He did some pretty popular stuff back then like Outlanders. If anything this is a return to "wacky bikini armor science-fantasy war" form for Manabe.

He recently did an althistory war manga called Heavy Armored Maiden about a tankette crew in a world where the Holy League-Ottoman wars happened at a WW2 tech level as well, but there's next to nothing about that on the English-speaking web.

Manabe Jouji writes some pretty fun stuff and man am I interested in Egyptian mythology but this loses me really hard at the whole Nazi shit.

He could handle it really well to be sure, but I don't have a lot of faith considering how Manga normally romanticizes and drools over Nazis. Even when they're villains they're made to be the "so cool" ones. Most of the time.
