Despite this new twist, I feel like this is coming back to where it all started. Nezuko who turned into a demon and in that state, was ready to kill Tanjiro. But because he still believed in Nezuko was there still her, allowed her to regain her consciousness (over time).

Now Tanjiro has turned into a demon and it'll be Nezuko's turn to help her brother.
