tfw you thought they might be discussing Iori's domestic violence but they justify it instead.

Wait, so is their bad relationship (the two delinquents, forgot their names since it’s been so long— sorry TT_TT) a misunderstanding? Cause the other chapter was how she didn’t responded, but now it’s the other way around...

"Yes, you see, I only hit you because I love you and because you deserve it. That is totally normal, everyone does it to people they love. Now, how dare you not appreciate my love for you. Come here so I can hit you some more, you ungrateful bitch."

Wait, did Iori actually hit her? That's... really not okay. I'm not liking volume 2. 😧

So in page 1 coworker-chan says that your partner should never hit you, regardless of whether it was your "fault." I agree completely; Iori has every right to be upset that Minami said something hurtful, but its still not ok to hit her. But then in page 4 coworker-chan is all "being an adult is hard" and Minami apologizes, suggesting that Iori was the sole victim in this chapter. This manga has gotten so inconsistent in its framing of violence that it can't go 3 pages without contradicting itself...

This is somewhat... disturbing.

If your partner causes you to have to bandage your face (or any other body part), it's time to reconsider the relationship.

@icekatze Even if it's been use as "comedic relief" more so than not, Iori has been hitting her since waaaay before. She gets out of an abusive relationship and then gets into another one.. Unlucky.

Hmm... I only remembered one other instance where Iori hit Minami, and I interpreted it as being framed as a bad move. Maybe I was being too generous before, but even a generous heart can't mistake this one.

It's a shame really, there were a number of moments that I really liked. Chapter 5 brought tears to my eyes.

@icekatze Definitely agree... Well, I wasn't meaning that she hits her every chapter so I guess say "waaaay before" was a bit much... I would say shes probably done it maybe like 4-5 times? Even after she realizes how she grew up and how her old relationship was.

I seem to remember that Iori use to hit Minami quite a bit. However, I think that maybe most of it was edited out in a revised version. Iirc, it actually was kind of disturbing the amount of times she did it, and why she did it makes it even worse. This time, at least someone acknowledges it. But I get the feeling this is just how the author wants this story to go.

I know there is the tsundere trope of always beating the shit out of their love interest (which also needs to fuck off already since it is not a good cliche to use), and you often see that when someone messes up, the offended party (almost always the female) slaps the other. I think this time, it is playing with that cliche. Not that it makes it any more ok, but I can see where it may be slightly different, more artistically used.

Still though, I want to believe the author is just playing around that tsundere cliche, but using lesbians instead of the typical straight pairing. And that Minami is filling in for the dense MC. But given her background, it just doesn't sit well.

You are rught though, in the current version, she has now hit her 3 times, the first 2 were basically identical situations where Minami embarrassed Iori in public by kissing her, so she hit her on the head (like the cliche kind of hit, where minami becomes a chibi-like figure and such). This is the "first" time she slapped her. But like I mentioned, I think there was a previous version where Iori slapped her way more often.

I guess I didn't catch the original version, thankfully. If this is the author's original style though, I'm not sure it's up my alley.

I get what you're saying about artistic use. Punching someone into the sky where they wink away into the distance is so far removed from reality that it's hard to take seriously on its own. Drama is fueled by conflict, but I much prefer it when the author can hang the lampshade on it.

It's been said that one of the big differences between dark humor and exploitative humor is whether or not the event is framed in the narrative as being bad or good. I'm honestly not even a big fan of dark humor, but felt like it crossed over the line from being a humorous tragedy into something really uncomfortable by trying to portray it as positive and romantic.

... Oh yeah, this is abuse. Mixing hurt feelings with violence, guilting the receiving party into seeing it all as their fault.

This chapter has made me stop supporting this pairing. :(

You know, I was trying to overlook the whole violence thing, maybe it's just a difference in culture idk I don't live in Japan so I can't say, but damn it as many positives I have for this story the negatives are just too much.
