It does seems like an Alice in the wonderland type of story. Very otherworldly and lacks a proper structure of some sort.

Oh gosh, I LOVE yokai stories! Some parts are a bit rushed, but I looooooove the feel already! Totally going to buy the book in Japanese!

I'm really loving this! I love so many aspects about it? The blend and immersion with the fantasy/folklore aspects, the koudan storytelling, as well as both the mcs! It might just be me, but I find the work really touching, especially the main character (Kouta). The scene where he was eating the meal and crying! Was so well done with the pacing and the emotions it conveyed. Simple and yet it was such a strong and impactful scene. It's refreshing to see MC's crying just because of the weight and burden of life, not just for some relationship or petty drama (like it usually is cheapened to, not that thats a bad thing in works but it feels a lot more sincere). And it's heartbreaking to see his fatigue climax into a stroke! This story is so well thought out. The characters are very mature. The atmosphere within the work is dreamy and, like the first comment said, there does exist a lack of structure, but this lack of structure only seems to enhance the story and its direction. More than a proper story or plot, this feels more of an atmospheric character driven work, and i love it.

also the quality of the scans are amazing! Thank you and keep up the good work!

i think its kind of interesting how hayane uses re-contextualization in creating the intrigue of this and their previous work (see you later mermaid). like, we still dont have the full picture, but knowing now that souta was on the brink of physical collapse/death makes certain things from the first chapter stand out/make more sense (particularly him fainting from seeing kihachis form and kihachis “almost died” comment).
longevity/death is already a firmly established theme in this work: souta starts out contemplating suicide + physically close to dying as a result of overwork. kihachis intervention (his threat to curse souta as well as his literal intervening care of souta) cause for these deaths to be confronted and staved off. it sets up an interesting dynamic here!

Althoguh there's so much to love about this work (and I greatly agree with the comments below, far more eloquent than mine), I also have to highly praise the gorgeous translation. The poetic, lyrical way the words flow in the inner narration are so wonderful, and with them I can already understand the way it must have felt to read the words in the original Japanese text. The storytelling of the author reflects the storytelling being conveyed in the work, and it just touches my heart so.
