Little harsh to call it a snipe. Don't expsct everyone in the scanlation world to know you were working on it. And so what if there's a mangadex page for it? Someone may have noticed it and worked on it without looking at mangadex. Most people check mangaupdates instead, after all.

was likely because it was the first time the user had uploaded a chapter and needed to wait for a mod to approve it.
while the chapter doesn't appear on the manga's page it still does on the front page atm.

If there is literally no chapters of it, there is no snipe. You could have just posted the entire chapter yourself instead of just the second half to show the work you put in to this instead of being way to angry for something that didn't happen and was no way predictable by anyone.

Does it really matter how many people post translations of a comic? There are plenty of other comics on this site that have more than one group working on them and there are groups that are fine with other groups that work on the same comic. I don’t get why some groups can’t just coexist with each other.

(After finishing reading the chapter):
Doesn't count as a snipe as no chapter had been released previously by anyone and generally doesn't count for the first chapter because a number of groups can see the first chapter is released (raw), decide to work on it, tell no one outside their group, and then release the chapter.

At that point it's not unusual for multiple chapter 1's to be out around the same time (within 3 days generally) because these different groups all did the work and want to release the chapter they worked on even if they decide to drop it after that chapter because other groups are working on it.

You could've also left a comment on the manga's page to tell people you were picking it up, thought it likely wouldn't have seen it until they released they're own chapter afterwards but still.

I understand the frustration (we’ve had similar events before) but if you have not claimed it in a way that someone can verify, it is not a snipe. Some people add titles just so that groups can find them. In the future, you can just write in the description “By __” (so it’ll show on MangaUpdates) and then in the comments write that you are starting it. You can also still release your version of 1.1.
That being said, thank you for the chapter, though it’s numbered as “Volume 1.2” instead of “Chapter 1.2.”
