@phantom00 There are ways to say things, and "I am looking to polish my skills" is not a good one when you're looking for long term employment.

While it might be fine at places like fast foods, where employees are expected to come and go, for longer terms positions, that's a red flag, basically saying "I'm looking to improve my skills, and then leave for somehwere that's my actual long term objective" meaning that, from the employer's perspective, it's equivalent to training someone, and paying them, only for them to then take their expertise elsewhere, which isn't really beneficial to the employer.
