i forgot the last few chapters weren't on here, thanks. it's been over half a year since i finished this, and i've come to terms with the ending. i really wanted to see them kiss, but i think this is a really good ending. an epilogue where they show a bit more normal intimacy would have been nice though.

This is nostalgic, brings me back a lot of my high school memories when I first watch the anime adaptation. This is also one of the firsts mangas I read, though I dropped it for a reason I can't remember.
I wish they kissed on the last chapter though after all those drool swapping 😅.

When this manga was first scanlated, I spent a very long time reading this series chapter by chapter, week by week, year by year a very long time ago (it started in 2004 and ended in 2014) and discussing it on animesuki forums. It was one of the biggest wastes of times I've ever had the misfortune occupying myself with. Most of those who read it at the time were none too pleased with the "ending." Here's a few comments from that forum:

Dropped this manga 15 chapters in, news of it ending is like news of a small tree withering and dying in a forest somewhere on the other side of the planet.

The ending was just as lame as he rest of the manga, nothing really happened. It could have ended 50 chapters ago and it wouldn't have made a difference.

The only thing making the last chapter a "finale" is because it's the final chapter

Again, nothing really happened that advances their relationship, and it could just as well be followed by another 92 chapters with such an open ending

The ending was really bad, seems like it was axed after the anime blue-ray was distribuited and they decided it could'nt be milked more.

It just dawned on me what I consider the biggest failing of this series:
Nowhere did I get the idea they were in love with each other

First off, you don't seem to read all the same series that I do, so you obviously only see when I'm "commenting on / calling it trash". I guess you're just like all those other goody-two-shoes who believe only people with positive comments should be allowed here and think that if someone has a negative comment about a series, they oughta just keep their mouths shut and stop reading it, if not be banned altogether.

Secondly, you have fallen into that hellish trap of assuming something without actually confirming whether it's true or not. Besides, why do you need to understand why I come to this site? Is it some kind of genetic quirk of yours that you get neurotically frustrated when you can't understand something? Besides that, you must not have read my comment about this series on the chapter page:

This manga was a mixed bag of really great, individual, stand-alone chapters, really stupid, idiotic stand-alone chapters, and utter crap, long, boring, drawn-out arcs (and I do mean long and boring). Probably the best thing about this manga is the resultant anime. Whereas I can't really recommend the manga because of its inherent flaws, the anime, on the other hand, I whole-heartedly recommend viewing as it might just be the very best manga-to-anime adaption that I've seen.
