I had a similar experience with a friend. It's basically Boomer logic. Little kids do things and then arrogant adults ruin their relationships "for their own good" with zero thought about their actual well-being just because the adults enjoy the feeling of power and want to pat themselves on the back for doing something. It's downright psychotic.
