Though a case like this is fair since the main character was a heavy smoker before getting reincarnated. While I do agree that many anime and manga glorify smoking way too much, showing none of the risks to boot, it is also fair for an addict to yearn for the source of their addiction. It's the same reason many Isekai protagonists are always looking to get some "good booze," even though alcohol is similarly something that shouldn't be glorified because of what it does to the body.

The most recent video games I can recall where the player character smoked are Dusk, Vanquish, and Turbo Overkill. Even outside of Walmart, I usually don't see or smell that many smokers these days. Smoking is truly horrible, though it thankfully seems far less popular now than when I was a kid.
