Isn't that a Composite* bow rather than a Compound bow? From what I know Compound bows use a levering system, like the "Shield Bow" he had made before.

@kur0g4m1 Yup. In the LN translations (by whom they were made, I forget), they correctly use "composite" for the X-bow in reference to the different materials the bow is made out of. Of course, if you don't know the meanings of the words (like myself, in years past) it's an easy mistake to make, especially with the many meanings of the word "compound".

For those who want to know,
"Composite" means "made up of various parts or elements" (Google) and refers to how multiple different materials are used in making the bow.
"Compound" means "too add to" but also means "composed of or resulting from union of separate elements, ingredients, or parts" (Merriam Webster) which may be one of the origins of the "compound/composite" confusion. In this case, "compound" refers to how the bow compounds the force the archer can output.

And you can google whatever else you need to know, so I'm not even sure why I wrote this comment.

Much work did get into it. Yet, if considering he only knows hunting bows, then of course it takes time to learn a new bow type
