I've never tried just pouring an alcohol over my ice cream like that, but I've mixed brandy into milkshakes before. That was pretty good.

IMO whiskey is not the drink to put over ice cream. With ice cream you want something smooth, maybe something that already has a bit of sweetness to it. So, brandy OK, Grand Marnier or Cointreau great; I had excellent results one time with peach schnapps. Whiskey . . . just not really an "ice cream" kind of drink.
