Someone definitely missed the comedy tag.

Imagine reading about sex-ed in a gag manga.

The fact that the hymen can be lost naturally does not mean there's no significance to losing it deliberately.
immediately shut down from the first group of people whom she opened up to.
It's called "advice". People offering beneficial recommendations from a different (more knowledgeable) point of view.
or have not gone through a good sex-Ed
You're not wrong there. My sex ed was so shit they even tried to justify male genital mutilation.
All I got on the topic of virginity was propaganda that it doesn't matter. It was very, very nearly too late by the time I realized they were wrong.

Actually I’m sorry to hear that. I had crap sex Ed when I was growing up too, super conservative Korean sex Ed >.< and I agree that it was definitely more advice than immediately shutting her down after re reading that part. Sorry if I was too harsh.

I swear. You two are acting like she's the unreasonable one beause she doesn't share society's collective - and profoundly creepy - obsession with virginity? Physical virginity, no less? Any guy who gets upset that he didn't get to inflict physical injury when he stuck his dick in a pussy is a guy not worth having in the first place. The one who says "oh, you masturbate with toys? Can I watch?" is the one who has his head screwed on straight.

I'm glad Oguri has the wherewithal to disregard any input from these two that doesn't sound right to her. It could have been quite a frustrating chapter otherwise.

Hardly. There is a strong collective disregard for virginity, not an obsession with it. Aside from males, for whom it's perversely used as an insult. Modern teachers aren't even allowed to teach facts that might tangentially encourage people to save their virginity, such as the prohibition against them pointing out that the most effective way to prevent the spread of STIs lies in the choice of sexual partner. When it's that verboten I don't see how you can think people are "obsessed" with it in a positive way.
The MC is the "normal" one, and the others are unconventional. I think she's wrong not because she's abnormal, but because I think both she and what's normal are wrong.
profoundly creepy
There is nothing "creepy" about wanting exclusivity in a relationship. That is a pretty basic underpinning for most people. Some just use less loose definitions than others and don't make the same exceptions others do.

If you think the greatest importance of the hymen is about physically tearing the hymen, then you have failed to understand why people who truly care about virginity do so.
If it were about the physical tearing I wouldn't value male virginity as highly as female, which I do, or I would view "surgically-restored" hymens as preferable to them being lost accidentally, which I don't.

To be clear, yeah, the hymen is a bother, and I'm glad there's no male equivalent to stop me building my dildo collection. If the manga had pretended it didn't exist and wasn't conceived of at all in-universe, never used the word or brought up the concept, and had just referred to her as being a virgin based on her having no sexual experience with others, I'd say go right ahead, jam the thing in. But since it does exist, then it's entirely irrelevant to describe how unpleasant or inconvenient it is that it exists, and neither those factors nor the "but there are exceptions" change the significance of making a conscious choice to tear it. At this point the best the series can do is have her fall off a bike or something and get unlucky, or have her belatedly realize that that had happened when she was younger. It'd be very lame, but it'd get it out of the way.

What on Earth does virginity have to do with exclusivity in a relationship? That's called monogamy.

And without some reason to make an exception, the same values that lead to monogamy being considered important also extend to virginity.

What would those values be exactly? You know what, fine, I'll go read the thread again. I think you mentioned something.

Caring about virginity is no different to caring about monogamy. Both in the general principle of wanting compatible values, and in the specific sexual-moral philosophy of the concept. A relationship with mismatched values in that regard is a recipe for disaster.

That's like saying liking dogs, but hating cats is the same as liking cats, but hating dogs. If people don't belong to opposite camps on that axis and want to own a pet, they're incompatible. That makes perfect sense; if one partner cares that the other is a virgin, and the other doesn't, they probably have incompatible sexual-moral belief systems and indeed shouldn't be together. Same as if one partner wants a monogamous relationship and the other does not. Perfectly reasonable statement.

What I was curious about is why you came to the conclusion virginity as a concept was equivalent to monogamy. Saying "the same reasons as why monogamy is important" doesn't make sense to me because monogamy is important to me, but I don't give two hoots about virginity. I have strong beliefs about dog ownership (hell no) and children (yes, please), but none about the virginity of my partner. I don't want to make assumptions about the thought process that has led to you forming this conviction, so that's why I'm asking.

What is there to say? It's about wanting to be your partner's lover, not "one of" their lovers. When I say it's "no different" to monogamy I don't mean it's "equivalent", I mean it is literally the same thing. I interpret the "mono-" in sexual monogamy to mean one. Not several gone through one at a time, but one.

Thank you, I now understand your position. I don't share it (very much the opposite, to say the least), but I do understand it, and that was my goal entering into this conversation. A rare pleasure to actually have a productive, civilized conversation on the internet on a sensitive topic like this. A win for all of humanity, in my book.

I hope you understand my quite snarky first post wasn't directed at you. I posted that before reading the thread. Sometimes I have a spontaneous reaction to artwork that I want to share without being influenced by what others are already saying.

I kind of wish the other people at the company would stop shaming her for liking sex. That's what they are working for, after all.

Slightly too much straightmanning.
Her self-confidence shot through the roof when she got hired.

Seeing how chesty Oguri is makes me wish I could squeeze her boobs and hope that she squirt a little every time I did.

Thanks for the translation.
