why would they? because from how that world seems to be men aren't viewed as equal people, their more viewed as objects of sexual desire. so any and all excuses to be able to do sexual things to them in legal manners would be taken. since i doubt the MC's family members are worried about some random girl romancing the MC and more worried about him getting raped or worse, kidnapped or something similar. since the gender population is 1:39, who's going to care about how a man feels since after all woman out number them. the way most stories' about a gender population gap, goes is that the minority rarely gets the better end of the stick and it doesn't sound like that world is different.
