Everyone in the West probably thinks of the Canary Islands, that is, the Canaries, or canary birds when hearing the name Kanaria. At least I'd think so.
That's because kanaria is one of the Japanese names for the canary birds (which are named after the Canary Islands), written purely with katakana. The other name is the kanji that Kanaria's name is written with (金糸雀, lit. "golden-thread sparrow"), which is normally read kinshijaku.
