She doesn't want to reveal her ability, and if anything probably doesn't want to escalate this too far either.

Given how the guy isn't under any investigation, clearly he's gotten away with all his previous killings.
So to convince anyone this seemingly clean guy is a murderer would be hard to do without making things up.
(yes she's done that bluff before with the sacred beast case and look at the amount of attention it brought her)

She literally has the magical item to bind him + know his method enough that she know she can get a drop on him by faking falling asleep.

Thank God there wasn't even a second of hesitation towards condemning his motivation, having a tragic backstory does not excuse a goddamn thing

Also i wouldn't be surprised if the Duke was aware the whole time and sent a shadow to follow her for safety
