He's mostly just showing off his magic items, and wallowing in his insecurity and low self-esteem. No wonder his old party kicked him out. Even when he does do something useful, like cast a spell, he has to pointlessly show off by using a quickened twin spell, blowing through all of his higher level spell slots.
