This is the type of youth-story I'm honestly fine with.
I'm extremely, EXTREMELY tired of the "introverted MC who can't talk, but somehow end up with all the hotties, while still being useless" trope -- but the basic idea of 2 people having the same conflict, and grow as people thanks to the existence of the other, is great.

I'd take an MC who starts as a doormat, but actually blossoms throughout the story to be less irrationally afraid of anything and everything, over any generic self-insert, nape-scratching MC.
