Well, just to give an opposite opinion. The entire chapter was ambiguous enough on what situation she was actually facing.
It could have been that she had other alternatives, to consider other courses of action, but she instinctively protected her face above all else?
I don't know, there's not enough to go on, I wouldn't read too deeply into it.
