I forget which anime/manga I heard this from, but randoserus are made to last the kid through all of grade school and eventually handed down to their next youngest sibling/relative or even descendant. Concept seems strange to me and I imagine there ought to be cheaper ones meant to only last a year or two. Cheaper ones might not be in demand though, if Japanese parents are concerned with their public image.
