A long distance relationship makes way more sense for the premise of the comic than a lovely guy who got himself a disagreeable AI waifu.

If the technology there is to the point you can just pop glasses on and be on another planet, it sure as heck isn't that strange for it to have technology that's reasonably close to what already exists.
